Becky Wigglesworth, Claudine Bedell and Amy Saks Pavese of the Education faculty organized a fall Workshop Series through the College鈥檚 Master of Arts in Teaching program fall semester, including a well-attended December 1 session with five panelists, all local educators with relevant experiences, on the topic 鈥淎ntiracist Pedagogies: Justice and Healing at the Center.” Among the panelists was Rebecca Haslam 鈥03 of the 麻豆视频 Michael鈥檚 Education faculty. Said Amy Saks Pavese, 鈥淲e began the Fall Workshop Series with our first MAT cohort in 2018 as a way to extend our teacher candidates鈥 understanding of timely and relevant topics in the field, with a particular focus on social-emotional learning.鈥

Claudine Bedell, Rebecca Haslam, Amy Knight, Amy Saks Pavese, and Becky Wigglesworth of the education faculty shared at the Teaching Professor Conference in June their experiences designing and coordinating the new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program launched in May 2019. The conference included both a virtual component and an in-person presentation in New Orleans. The team鈥檚 presentation, 鈥淔ostering Engaged Participation to Promote Relevant and Rigorous Learning,鈥 highlighted the mission-driven design of the MAT and the program鈥檚 focus on emotional, behavioral, and cognitive engagement of students as significant factors contributing to the program鈥檚 success.
